How to Get Perfect Winged Eyeliner

makeup for african american womenMastering the art of liquid eyeliner is at the top of many women’s wishlist – its flattering effect has universal appeal. Eyeliner is designed to define the eyes and can be used to modify their natural shape to appear more attractive. Liquid eyeliner has the added advantage of a more fluid consistency that can be used in a more artistic application.

Winged eyeliner describes the flick at the outer corner of the eye that adds extra definition and shape. Popular since the 1950s, winged eyeliner adds a subtle touch of instant glamour. The style is flattering on just about everyone so it is certainly a skill worth learning!

What is the best liquid eye liner to use?

SACHA liquid eyeliner is available in three shades – midnight black, sable brown and navy blue. Smooth and easy to apply, SACHA eyeliner is smudge-resistant with long-lasting staying power. This makes it an ideal option for creating the perfect winged eyeliner look.

How do I create a winged eyeliner effect?

1)    Tilt your head backwards and look down into a mirror

2)    Hold the eyeliner brush somewhere between a 45-degree and parallel angle to the eye

3)    Gently drag the eyeliner brush along your upper lashline, starting from the inner corner out towards the outer corner of your eye

4)    Try to apply the eyeliner as close to the eyelashes as possible

5)    For a thicker line, apply slightly more pressure

6)    To create the perfect winged angle, continue eyeliner along the natural curve of the lower lash line, as if it were continuing upwards towards the outer edge of the brow.

7)    Leaving this tip of the wing as a fine line, extend the line on the upper lash line to connect with the extended line from the lower lash line.

8)    Color in any spaces. Winged eyeliner should appear thicker at the outer corner and thinner towards the inner corner of your eye

9)    Once you have finished, try not to blink for around 10 seconds to prevent the eyeliner from smudging

10)  Step back to ensure both eyes appear even, modifying if necessary

All you need to know about blush

Blush – also known as blusher, blush-on or rouge – is a type of cosmetic product used to add color to the cheekbone area. As well as creating a healthy appearance, this also adds definition to the face.

What types of blush are available?

SACHA Cosmetics offers Blush-On products in a wide range of shades, both in matte and pearlized form. Regular blush, without luster, is ideal for daytime or normal wear, whereas shimmer blush creates a glow that is perfect for evening.

The most important elements to look for in a blush product are vibrant color and long-lasting wear. SACHA Blush-On products are richly pigmented, providing great natural-looking color that is easy to blend across the skin. SACHA offers shades of blush to suit every skin tone, both in light-reflecting shimmer shades and muted non-shimmer options.

What is the best blush color for me?

It is important to take into account your natural coloring when choosing a blush shade. Certain shades will complement certain skin tones more than others – there are no fixed rules, but the classic color wheel serves as a useful guide when choosing complementary colors. The opposing color of your natural underlying skin tone is usually the best match for your skin.

Blush should also complement your eye color and choice of eye make-up, to present an overall balanced look. Current fashions also influence the way we apply blush, as make-up trends are constantly changing over time.

What is the best way to apply blush?

First of all, ensure you have sufficient lighting before applying blush, or indeed any make-up, as your application will be influenced by the way your environment is lit.

Blush should always be applied after foundation and powder, using a soft blush brush. The brush should ideally be held at an angle that is either parallel to or at a 45 degree angle to the cheekbone, using gentle upwards or downwards swiping motions along the cheekbone.

Cream-based blush is suitable for those with dry skin and may be applied using either a brush, sponge or fingertips (for the self-applicator).

Make Your Make-Up Last Longer

Every woman wants her makeup to look fabulous for as long as possible. During long days and special occasions it is important for your make-up to have long-lasting staying power to avoid the need for regular touch-ups. The last thing you want is your make-up fading, creasing or melting off your face before you’ve even reached your destination!

Preparation is Key

The skin must be adequately prepared before you even consider applying any make-up – it is like preparing a clean, fresh canvas before beginning artwork. Ensure the skin has been properly cleansed, toned and moisturized to create an even base on which to work. Moisturizer should ideally be applied around 30-45 minutes before foundation in order to be fully absorbed into the skin. This will increase the staying power of your foundation and concealer.

Fix-It Spray

SACHA Fix-It Spray is designed to set make-up after it has been applied. Its silicone-based ingredients help to seal it in place for hours and provide a flawless, professional finish.

Designed to work with SACHA foundations, powders and eye shadows, it creates a strong hold that significantly increases the staying power of your make-up. With a pleasant fragrance, it leaves a fresh feel to the skin and sets the canvas for further make-up application.

Another advantage of using Fix-It Spray is that it helps to constrict the powder and creates a more natural look. More powder can always be added afterwards if a matte finish is preferred.

The best way to maximize the longevity of your make-up is to use Fix-It Spray immediately after applying powder and then again at the end of the make-up session. This sets the make-up twice and increases its overall staying power. For extra-long wear, apply powder in layers with Fix-It Spray in between each layer – ideal for photography or outdoor events.

Do I need Lip Liner?

What is lipliner?

Lipliner is a term to describe a cosmetic colored pencil that is used to enhance and define the lips. It is designed to be used in conjunction with lipstick or other lip color products.

What are the benefits of using lipliner?

Although not essential, lipliner is useful for creating long-lasting lip color by using a layering technique. As well as increasing the staying power of lip color, lipliner can also be used for correcting thin, full or unevenly shaped lips.

Lipliner can be used as part of a multi-dimensional technique, which involves adding two or more shades of color to create the illusion of fullness.

One of the main benefits of lipliner is that it prevents your lipstick from ‘bleeding’ into the feathered fine lines around the mouth. It provides a base on which to build further color, which gives a more professional finish and increases staying power. Some people skip lipliner for a more natural finish – but once you begin using it you will probably feel your make-up is unfinished without it!

How does lipliner affect my make-up?

Lipliner is essentially used to outline the lips, either following its natural shape or using corrective techniques to alter the lip contours. It can be applied with varying intensity to provide a soft or hard outline on which to add further lip color. Lipliner creates an underlying “lip palette” which determines the final shape of the lips once the rest of your make-up has been applied. The final color of the lips depends on any further lipstick or lip gloss products that are applied on top of the lipliner.

What is my perfect shade?

Eye shadow adds definition to your eyes, making them stand out and appear more attractive. The right shade should accentuate your natural eye color.

Choosing your perfect eye shadow shade depends on several factors, including your natural hair, skin and eye coloring as well as personal preferences. Your natural features affect which shades will look best on you – certain shades will suit you more than others.

Fashion trends can also influence your choice of eye shadow as part of the overall look. Matching your eye shadow to a particular accessory from your outfit can often be a great way to make your eyes really stand out.

The classic color wheel can help you to identify complementary colors that will work well together – getting the right shade can transform the appearance of your eyes. For example, green eyes are beautifully matched with bronze, orange or purple eye shadows that contrast perfectly.

If you’re using two shades together, ensure they are well-matched. SACHA eye shadow palettes, trios and quads contain expertly matched colors that are designed to complement each other when applied.

The Lowdown on Lip Shine

The history of lip gloss

For super-shiny, seductive lips you can’t beat a tubeof lip gloss – the staple product found in every woman’s purse. The first lip gloss was invented by make-up guru Max Factor back in 1932, for the purpose of making actresses’ lips appear glossy on film. Since then, every major cosmetics brand has launched its own versions of lip gloss, which has become just as popular as traditional lipstick. These days, lip gloss offers more than just cosmetic properties – many contain moisturizing benefits as well as providing shiny color.

Lip gloss innovations

So what should you expect from your lip gloss? Vibrant color and long-lasting shine are the two most important qualities. In an increasingly competitive market, some manufacturers have pushed the boundaries of lip gloss technology, creating gloss that is flavored, lip-plumping, SPF-protective, breath-freshening, color-changing or even appetite-suppressing!

What is the difference between lip gloss and lipstick?

Lipstick provides a rich, deeply pigmented color that is long-lasting and durable. It is ideal for creating a statement look, whereas lip gloss can appear more subtle and natural. Some prefer the high-shine finish that lip gloss provides, whereas others prefer the matte effect of lipstick. Lip gloss may also be worn over lipstick to add extra shine.

SACHA Lip Shine is a lip gloss designed to provide vibrant color with long-lasting durability. Unlike some other brands, LipShine does not have that unpleasant sticky feeling or overpowering fragrance. The gloss can be easily and smoothly applied, creating a protective layer over your lips to maintain their natural moisture. LipShine works perfectly alongside the lip liners and lipsticks in the SACHA range, allowing you to build up the color for maximum impact.

All you need to know about eye pencils

What are eye pencils?

Cosmetic colored eye pencils are used to define and enhance the eyes. Their creamy texture allows them to be softly blended with other eye color products, or they may used to create a more sleek and defined line.

The use of eye pencils can be traced back to over 10,000 years ago when the ancient Egyptians used black eye liner to define their eyes and protect against evil spirits. Since then, eye liner has remained a staple cosmetic item to this day, with styles varying from the thick lines of the 1960s to the ‘guyliner’ trend of the twenty-first century (which refers to a subtle application of eyeliner on men).

The most common shade of eye pencil is black, although brown, white, blue, purple and other colors may also be used to create different effects.

How can I use eye pencils hygienically?

All cosmetics should be used in a hygienic way to prevent the risk of cross-infection – particularly when used around the delicate eye area. Eye pencils should be sharpened after each use and sanitized to destroy bacteria.

What style will suit me?

Some people shy away from using eye pencils as they worry it will appear too heavy. Although the heavy-eyeliner look is not for everyone, even those with pale coloring can find an eye liner to suit their complexion. If you find black eye liner too strong, try using a brown eye pencil for a more natural look. Its subtle definition will enhance the appearance of your eyes without appearing too heavy.

Eye pencils are also ideal for balancing out your natural eye shape and creating the illusion of wider or rounder eyes. A classic winged eye liner style is perfect for adding extra length and creating a more flattering shape to the eye.

There are different eyeliner application techniques and colors that are better suited for the various eye shapes.

What is an Eye Primer?

An eye primer is a cosmetic substance used to extend the staying power of eye shadow. Once an eye primer is applied, eye shadow will appear more intense and last much longer.

sacha cosmetics

Do I always need to wear eye primer?

For a professional finish, eye primer is recommended to enhance the appearance and staying power of your eye make-up. It is ideal for events where your make-up needs to last all day and/or all night – and look fabulous without touch-ups.

It is particularly important to use eye primer if you are to be photographed – this is due to the ‘washing out’ effect of the flash, which dulls the appearance of eye shadow colors. With an eye primer, your eye shadow will really ‘pop’ and be shown at its best.

How does it work?

An eye primer works by creating a strong bond for the eye color and enhancing its pigmentation. It regulates the moisture balance to ensure the eye shadow remains strongly bonded to the skin or foundation.

What types of eye primer are available?

SACHA Cosmetics has 8 shades of eye primer, ensuring there is one to suit every skin tone. To select the right eye primer, choose the one that most closely matches your foundation or complexion.

Does everyone need face powder?

What is face powder?

Face powders are used to create a matte finish when applying make-up. They are designed to control the skin’s natural shine, as well as helping to ‘set’ foundation and concealer.

Applying powder helps to create an even base onto which blush, bronzer and other colored products can be applied – enhancing their appearance and longevity.

Experienced make-up artists can also use lighter or darker shades of powder to streamline or enhance certain features of the face. Although usually applied on top of foundation, powder can also be worn alone to provide a light coverage.

african american makeup

How should it be applied?

Most powders are applied after foundation and concealer. In this way it acts as a setting agent, as well as presenting a professional overall finish. Powder is usually applied over the whole face, using a soft-bristled brush for best results.

You should select a shade that is translucent if you do not wish to add any further color to the face, or alternatively you can use a powder that is colored up to two or three shades lighter than your foundation. Ideally, you should use the same shade as your foundation or slightly lighter.

Following your application of powder, it is recommended to use a fix-it setting spray to create a natural, un-powdery finish and increase the staying power of your make-up.

Do I need to use face powder?

Powder is an essential step in creating a professional finish to your foundation base, helping it to set and last all day. Without powder, foundation can ‘slip’ on the face, particularly in warm or humid conditions.

If you prefer a more natural look, powder can be used on its own without foundation for a sheer finish.

What are the benefits of using SACHA powders?

SACHA Cosmetics offers a range of both pressed and loose powders in 10 different shades to match every skin tone. In both forms, SACHA powders are user-friendly and designed to work with the foundations and concealers in its range.

How to Choose Your Ideal Foundation

Choosing your ideal foundation can sometimes be a daunting task when we are confronted with a dazzling range of products, all claiming to create beautiful, flawless skin. With so many shades and types available, it is essential to choose wisely. As the basis for the rest of your make-up, if the foundation is wrong it can potentially ruin the entire look. Getting the foundation shade and coverage right is at the heart of a beautifully made-up face.

 make up

So why is it so difficult to find that perfect foundation?

It is easy to make mistakes when choosing a foundation. Store lighting is not usually conducive to comparing shades against skin tone –pure daylight is best to examine how well a foundation matches your skin. Many people also tend to test shades on their hand, which is not a reliable indicator of how well it will match your face. Some, misguidedly believe that to achieve an even skin tone they must choose a heavy-weight foundation to provide full coverage. As a result, they end up with a ‘mask-like’ appearance that is neither natural nor attractive.

What is the purpose of foundation?

At SACHA, we believe that foundation should create a natural canvas on the face, as a basis for further cosmetics. Applied correctly, foundation should cover imperfections and even out the skin tone without ever appearing thick or heavy. Remember, foundation should not really be visible – it should match your skin tone so well that it seamlessly blends into your face.

A Beginner’s Guide to Concealer

What is Concealer?

Concealer is a very powerful tool for both the makeup artist and the average woman. From covering blemishes to hiding dark under-eye circles, concealer can transform your appearance into a beautiful, flawless finish.

While foundation creates an even base, concealer is designed to provide intensive coverage over small imperfections. Only a tiny amount is required, which conceals where necessary – allowing your foundation to provide a more natural level of coverage for the rest of your face. Most people suffer from the occasional blemish every now and again, so concealer is a must-have product for every cosmetics kit. Trained make-up artists can also use lighter shades of concealer to highlight certain features or streamline the face.

When should I apply it?

This is one of the most common questions about concealer. Some people insist on applying it before their foundation, others believe it should only ever be applied afterwards.

The truth is that it depends on your type of foundation. SACHA Cosmetics has six different types – some require the concealer to be applied beforehand, whereas some are designed for concealer to be added afterwards. Applying concealer afterwards offers the benefit of allowing you to focus on where it is required, after your foundation has created an even base.

Why is a regular skin care routine important?

Beautiful skin is top of everyone’s wishlist and, with the prevalence of skin conditions on the rise, it is more important than ever to take care of our skin.

Our skin is amazing – as the largest organ in the body, it continually renews its millions of cells to form an elastic, waterproof, protective shield. However, although designed to be resilient, our facial skin requires special care as it is under constant attack from the elements. Exposure to the sun, air-borne pollutants, air conditioning and chemicals can disrupt its delicate balance. Understanding your skin type and using appropriate skin care products is therefore essential to maintain healthy skin.

Establishing a regular skin care routine from an early age is the best way to maintain healthy skin throughout life. As our skin matures, it requires extra help as it becomes drier and loses its elasticity. By acknowledging the changing needs of our skin, we can prolong its youthfulness by providing it with the appropriate care.

makeup

Using unsuitable skin care products does not only waste your time and money – it may even damage your skin. It is crucial to monitor your skin as it is prone to changing over time – the seasons, hormonal changes and advancing age can cause your skin type to change, making it drier, oilier or more sensitive. For example, just because you’ve always had oily skin doesn’t necessarily mean you always will – as you age, your skin tends to produce less oil, so continuing to use products for oily skin would have an overly drying effect.

SACHA skin care products have been specially designed to work in conjunction with each other. The SACHA skin care routine is a 3-step process, based on the ‘cleanse, tone, moisturize’ method. This is the most effective way to guarantee clear, healthy skin for every skin type. Even oily skins need moisturizer, so don’t be tempted to skip part of the routine.
