Do I need Lip Liner?

What is lipliner?

Lipliner is a term to describe a cosmetic colored pencil that is used to enhance and define the lips. It is designed to be used in conjunction with lipstick or other lip color products.

What are the benefits of using lipliner?

Although not essential, lipliner is useful for creating long-lasting lip color by using a layering technique. As well as increasing the staying power of lip color, lipliner can also be used for correcting thin, full or unevenly shaped lips.

Lipliner can be used as part of a multi-dimensional technique, which involves adding two or more shades of color to create the illusion of fullness.

One of the main benefits of lipliner is that it prevents your lipstick from ‘bleeding’ into the feathered fine lines around the mouth. It provides a base on which to build further color, which gives a more professional finish and increases staying power. Some people skip lipliner for a more natural finish – but once you begin using it you will probably feel your make-up is unfinished without it!

How does lipliner affect my make-up?

Lipliner is essentially used to outline the lips, either following its natural shape or using corrective techniques to alter the lip contours. It can be applied with varying intensity to provide a soft or hard outline on which to add further lip color. Lipliner creates an underlying “lip palette” which determines the final shape of the lips once the rest of your make-up has been applied. The final color of the lips depends on any further lipstick or lip gloss products that are applied on top of the lipliner.

What is an Eye Primer?

An eye primer is a cosmetic substance used to extend the staying power of eye shadow. Once an eye primer is applied, eye shadow will appear more intense and last much longer.

Do I always need to wear eye primer?

For a professional finish, eye primer is recommended to enhance the appearance and staying power of your eye make-up. It is ideal for events where your make-up needs to last all day and/or all night – and look fabulous without touch-ups.

It is particularly important to use eye primer if you are to be photographed – this is due to the ‘washing out’ effect of the flash, which dulls the appearance of eye shadow colors. With an eye primer, your eye shadow will really ‘pop’ and be shown at its best.

How does it work?

An eye primer works by creating a strong bond for the eye color and enhancing its pigmentation. It regulates the moisture balance to ensure the eye shadow remains strongly bonded to the skin or foundation.

What types of eye primer are available?

SACHA Cosmetics has 8 shades of eye primer, ensuring there is one to suit every skin tone. To select the right eye primer, choose the one that most closely matches your foundation or complexion.

Does everyone need face powder?

What is face powder?

Face powders are used to create a matte finish when applying make-up. They are designed to control the skin’s natural shine, as well as helping to ‘set’ foundation and concealer.

Applying powder helps to create an even base onto which blush, bronzer and other colored products can be applied – enhancing their appearance and longevity.

Experienced make-up artists can also use lighter or darker shades of powder to streamline or enhance certain features of the face. Although usually applied on top of foundation, powder can also be worn alone to provide a light coverage.

How should it be applied?

Most powders are applied after foundation and concealer. In this way it acts as a setting agent, as well as presenting a professional overall finish. Powder is usually applied over the whole face, using a soft-bristled brush for best results.

You should select a shade that is translucent if you do not wish to add any further color to the face, or alternatively you can use a powder that is colored up to two or three shades lighter than your foundation. Ideally, you should use the same shade as your foundation or slightly lighter.

Following your application of powder, it is recommended to use a fix-it setting spray to create a natural, un-powdery finish and increase the staying power of your make-up.

Do I need to use face powder?

Powder is an essential step in creating a professional finish to your foundation base, helping it to set and last all day. Without powder, foundation can ‘slip’ on the face, particularly in warm or humid conditions.

If you prefer a more natural look, powder can be used on its own without foundation for a sheer finish.

What are the benefits of using SACHA powders?

SACHA Cosmetics offers a range of both pressed and loose powders in 10 different shades to match every skin tone. In both forms, SACHA powders are user-friendly and designed to work with the foundations and concealers in its range.

How to Choose Your Ideal Foundation

Choosing your ideal foundation can sometimes be a daunting task when we are confronted with a dazzling range of products, all claiming to create beautiful, flawless skin. With so many shades and types available, it is essential to choose wisely. As the basis for the rest of your make-up, if the foundation is wrong it can potentially ruin the entire look. Getting the foundation shade and coverage right is at the heart of a beautifully made-up face.

So why is it so difficult to find that perfect foundation?

It is easy to make mistakes when choosing a foundation. Store lighting is not usually conducive to comparing shades against skin tone –pure daylight is best to examine how well a foundation matches your skin. Many people also tend to test shades on their hand, which is not a reliable indicator of how well it will match your face. Some, misguidedly believe that to achieve an even skin tone they must choose a heavy-weight foundation to provide full coverage. As a result, they end up with a ‘mask-like’ appearance that is neither natural nor attractive.

What is the purpose of foundation?

At SACHA, we believe that foundation should create a natural canvas on the face, as a basis for further cosmetics. Applied correctly, foundation should cover imperfections and even out the skin tone without ever appearing thick or heavy. Remember, foundation should not really be visible – it should match your skin tone so well that it seamlessly blends into your face.

A Beginner’s Guide to Concealer

What is Concealer?

Concealer is a very powerful tool for both the makeup artist and the average woman. From covering blemishes to hiding dark under-eye circles, concealer can transform your appearance into a beautiful, flawless finish.

While foundation creates an even base, concealer is designed to provide intensive coverage over small imperfections. Only a tiny amount is required, which conceals where necessary – allowing your foundation to provide a more natural level of coverage for the rest of your face. Most people suffer from the occasional blemish every now and again, so concealer is a must-have product for every cosmetics kit. Trained make-up artists can also use lighter shades of concealer to highlight certain features or streamline the face.

When should I apply it?

This is one of the most common questions about concealer. Some people insist on applying it before their foundation, others believe it should only ever be applied afterwards.

The truth is that it depends on your type of foundation. SACHA Cosmetics has six different types – some require the concealer to be applied beforehand, whereas some are designed for concealer to be added afterwards. Applying concealer afterwards offers the benefit of allowing you to focus on where it is required, after your foundation has created an even base.
