What is lipliner?

Lipliner is a term to describe a cosmetic colored pencil that is used to enhance and define the lips. It is designed to be used in conjunction with lipstick or other lip color products.


What are the benefits of using lipliner?

Although not essential, lipliner is useful for creating long-lasting lip color by using a layering technique. As well as increasing the staying power of lip color, lipliner can also be used for correcting thin, full or unevenly shaped lips.

How does lipliner affect my make-up?

Lipliner is essentially used to outline the lips, either following its natural shape or using corrective techniques to alter the lip contours. Lipliner creates an underlying “lip palette” which determines the final shape of the lips once the rest of your make-up has been applied. What is face powder?

Face powders are used to create a matte finish when applying make-up. They are designed to control the skin’s natural shine, as well as helping to ‘set’ foundation and concealer.

Applying powder helps to create an even base onto which blush, bronzer and other colored products can be applied – enhancing their appearance and longevity.

Experienced make-up artists can also use lighter or darker shades of powder to streamline or enhance certain features of the face. Although usually applied on top of foundation, powder can also be worn alone to provide a light coverage.

How should it be applied?

Most powders are applied after foundation and concealer. In this way it acts as a setting agent, as well as presenting a professional overall finish. Powder is usually applied over the whole face, using a soft-bristled brush for best results.

You should select a shade that is translucent if you do not wish to add any further color to the face, or alternatively you can use a powder that is colored up to two or three shades lighter than your foundation. Ideally, you should use the same shade as your foundation or slightly lighter.

Following your application of powder, it is recommended to use a fix-it setting spray to create a natural, un-powdery finish and increase the staying power of your make-up.
